I am calling you today to urge you to ask your colleagues on the Education Committee to support House Bill 561, the MCAS Reform Bill. The use of the MCAS as a must-pass graduation requirement harms all students by
“Teaching to the test” and narrowing the curricula
Diverting school resources away non-tested subjects/activities
Decreasing motivation to learn
The use of high stakes testing has increased drop-out rate and lowered graduation rates which is particularly devastating to communities of color. This is also a public safety issue for our neighborhoods.
Please urge your colleagues on the Education Committee to support House Bill 561.
